Elan Biography

Elan was born in London, Marylebone to be precise. He grew up in Willesden Green, North West London.

He had an eclectic and rich education set to a back drop of 70’s UK. Top of the Pops, cops with no guns. Instant coffee, Wimpy Burgers and three T.V. stations pumping out Benny Hill, Are You Being Served, Grandstand football and ArmChair thrillers.

He loved bagels and trips on his bike to see the bright lights and the big city. Carnaby st, Soho,
Oxford st, he enjoyed the simplicity and excitement of life as a child in England.

“From Cricklewood to Hollywood” A bit of graffiti written at a bus stop in Cricklewood north west London circa 1977. A whole new world opened up to an otherwise oblivious 12 year old. Punk rock had arrived.

Elan had always found excitement and fun in music. From an early age he messed around with tape machines and played in bands and learned how to write music.

One of his earliest memories and musical influences was his grandfather regularly recording The Eurovision Song Contest on an old 2 track reel to reel at home.

Other early influences included Toto , Valantino Garavani handmade Italian suits, Jean Cocteau, The Specials, Afrika bambaataa,and the fantasy of things like Vortesism,Disco, Dadaism, Bob Fosse, Kraftwork and R D Lang.

Eventually he got a job in a local recording studio learning skills from producers and musicians
that he worked with over the years. Always remaining true and steadfast to his lifelong influences. Great chefs of the late 19th and early 20th century like Leonard Burnstein, Leonard Nimoy, Leonard Cohen, LennyBruce. As well as Holger Czukay, Rive Gauche, Channel No. 5, Grand Master Flash and Bugsy Malone. But most of all, London was growing nurturing and inspiring all
around. This was his playground, his backyard, his daydream.

In 1984 he got a job in New York City, At the time New York was in turmoil as it so often is, this time it was a collision of art and culture. There where alot of new styles and bands emerging. He
was in the thick of it. He spent his nights going to clubs, art galleries and gigs. He spent his days off traveling America on GreyHound buses, learning a lot about the country. Change was in the air.
To a young impressionable mind there was alot to learn and experience and many miles to go before sleep. Eventually he returned to Europe for furtherworld travels.

Elan spent most of the 1990’s writting producing, playing in bands and running studios. He was signed to various labels (Chrysalis Music, Mute, Topshelf) and management companies (Russel Stone/London Records, Hands On/Eurythmics management, Roachford Mgt) working on lots of varied projects. Gaining experience in sound production and knowledge of different genres and getting to know and understand the music biz.

He can pretty much navigate most studios and make a good noise. As well as find his way round various musical instruments(guitar,trumpet,keyboards,bass,percussions). But most of all he brings a unique style and way of working, having learned from some incredible people and musicians
from all over the world that he has had the good fortune to meet and work with like Hugh Murphy producer of Baker Street, members of Love,Sun Ra Arkestra, Kid Creole , Graham Central Station, and many punk affiliates.

He met his beautiful wife in London and they partied like it was 1999, because it was! Amber Dawn is an Angeleno and has lived in Europe for 12 years. They started a band called Arp, after Jean Arp the Dada artist. They also have a record label called Topshelf Records.

After living together in the UK for 6 years they both upped and left for the sunny disposition of Los
Angeles California. and currently live and work in Hollywood. Elan has inherited a large extended family who are also all musicians and artists.Thanks to this and his passion for making tunes ,he is always busy with various projects, writing recording and performing live.
